Registration for this summer's continuing professional education program for teachers has begun.
The Davidson institute for Science Education is the main contributor for professional
enhancement, excellence and development for teachers of Science and Mathematics in
Israel. The Institute is a professional and supporting community for teachers and provides teachers with continuing professional education, supervision, guidance, enrichments and advice on every subject in the field of science education. In the campus of the institute the participating teachers are free to enjoy easy access to wireless internet, library services and a collection of up-to-date resources and teaching media.
Teachers are the critical link and are key in determining the quality and the standards of
education in general and Science education in particular. One teacher encounters a large number of pupils over the years of working in the educational system, thus teachers have a major impact on the Science and Technology education of pupils at all levels. Programs for teachers' professional development and continuing professional education are run at the Davidson Institute of Science Education by the unit – Professional Development for Science Teachers (PDST). The unit is comprised of teachers.
The PDST unit prepares, develops and runs programs for teachers that provide support for teachers in teaching Science, Math and Technology through the use of a modern teaching and training environment, advanced laboratories and modern technologies. Within the framework of this unit, teachers participate in continuing professional education in the teaching of the various scientific disciplines as well as multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary programs. The programs of the unity assist teachers in combining various aspects from different fields and using innovative learning and teaching strategies and advancing all the pupils (including those with special needs and those with exceptional talent) in a well-informed and enlightened manner.
The unit runs annual and summer programs of continuing professional education as well as workshops and courses (including for teachers on sabbatical), international programs for leading teachers, conferences and seminars. All the PDST programs are coordinated and recognized by the Ministry of Education.
The unit is run by a team of some of the best teachers and scientists in Israel who are
provided with access to the latest technologies and liaise with the staff of the Department of Science Teaching at the Weizmann Institute of Science ensuring that the program that is offered is of the highest standards and is the most pedagogically and scientifically up-to-date possible. Activities of the unit are supervised by the Ministry of Education, management of the central region and pedagogic centers across the country.
